Papyrus 808, column 1: Portion of a contract drawn up in Oxyrhynchus. Unpublished.
Column 2 (SB XVI 12952, TM 16327): Portion of a wet-nurse contract drawn up in Oxyrhynchus between Themistocles, son of Ptolemaeus, and Apollonarion, a freedwoman acting with a guardian, who undertakes to nurture a foundling. Earlier agreements are mentioned. Dated 24-28 August 68.
Papyrus 809 (SB XVI 13048, TM 16359): Beginning of a contract drawn up in Oxyrhynchus, dated between 89 and 96. The names of the parties are damaged. On the right, there are traces of another document.

Two papyrus fragments that do not belong together, mounted on cardboard in the same glass frame.
Upper papyrus (Papyrus 808): Portion of a medium-brown papyrus roll with detached scrap, complete at the top and broken off on the other sides; written on one side along the fibres. The front bears portions of 2 columns of varying length in different hands; the sheet containing the first column was glued onto the second sheet; the upper margin survives. The back is blank. The modern annotation in red refers to the publication in P.Oxy. II.
Lower papyrus (Papyrus 809): Portion of a medium-brown papyrus, complete at the top and broken off on the other sides; written on one side along the fibres. The front bears portions of 2 columns in different hands; the sheet containing the first column was glued onto the second sheet; the upper margin survives at least partly. The back is blank. The modern annotation in red refers to the publication in P.Oxy. II.

Dimensions: Papyrus 808: 198 x 123 mm; Papyrus 809: 68 x 80 mm; housed in a glass frame measuring 305 x 180 mm.
Script: Papyrus 808, column 1: Rather compressed and small upright hand with cursive traits; column 2: Proficient and neat cursive hand. Papyrus 809, column 1: Upright and overall bilinear hand, with cursive traits; column 2: Rapid cursive hand with a slight slant to the right.

Origin: Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Oxyrhynchus, Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 739-834 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in October 1900. Of these, papyri 739-814 form part of the discoveries made by B. P. Grenfell and A. S. Hunt on the site of the ancient Oxyrhynchus.
