Upper papyrus (Papyrus 815, P.Fay. 3, TM 59295): Portion of a commentary on Aristotle’s Topics II.2, with quotations and their paraphrasis. The quotations project to the left. Assigned to the second half of the first century AD.
Lower papyrus (Papyrus 816, P.Fay. 4, TM 61207): Small fragment of Homer, Iliad VIII, with the ends of lines 332-336 and the beginnings of lines 362-369. Assigned to the second century BC.

Two papyrus fragments that do not belong together, bearing writing on one side only; mounted on cardboard in the same glass frame.
Upper papyrus (Papyrus 815): Fragment of a papyrus roll, darkened at the top, broken off on all sides and with surface damage throughout; there remain portions of three columns, and the second is the best preserved. No margin survives; the intercolumn is minimal. The number in red refers to the publication in P.Fay.
Lower papyrus (Papyrus 816): Fragment of papyrus roll, broken off at all sides, written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. Portions of two consecutive columns are preserved; of the first, the ends of 5 lines remain; of the second the beginnings of 8 lines. Each column would have had 34 lines. The intercolumn survives. The number in red refers to the publication in P.Fay.

Dimensions: Papyrus 815: 120 x 111 mm; Papyrus 816: 55 x 80 mm. Housed in a glass case measuring 245 x 170 mm.
Script: Papyrus 815: Neat, slightly sloping hand of medium size. Papyrus 816: Medium-sized upright hand, with no decoration; square-shaped epsilon.

Provenance: Papyrus 815: Theadelpheia, meris of Themistos, Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Papyrus 816: Bakchias, meris of Herakleides, Arsinoite nome, Egypt. Both papyri were presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 739-834 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in October 1900.
