Four fragments of varying size from a papyrus roll, with minor surface damage; written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. Portions of the last two columns of book 2 of the Iliad survive; the first fragment from the left contains few letters of 17 lines, with a small trace of another line at the top; the surface is rubbed in places; the second, third and fourth fragments bear parts of the second column, with upper and lower margins partly preserved. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: Largest fragment: 177 x 41 mm; housed in a glass frame measuring 230 x 215 mm.
Script: Large, well-rounded bookhand, mostly bilinear, exhibiting serifs and curls and some prolonged strokes (“Alexandrian stylistic class”). Accents and breathings noted, elision marked.

Provenance: Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 884-1178 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 8 June 1901.
