Recto:
Register of revenue compiled by an unnamed strategus for his successor Iulius Isidorus, arranged in 18 columns numbered as 76-93; originally the roll must have been much bigger. The register contains a list of tax-payers with the respective payments in money, arranged alphabetically under the entry of each village; the villages, all located in the Arsinoite nome and most of them in the meris of Themistos, follow the alphabetical order. Dated to 144.
Papyrus 1170 (1) recto: Traces of one column on the left-hand side; columns 1-7, numbered on top as 76-82: tax-payers from Athena, Apias, Nesos of Alexandros, Apollonias, Argeas, Andromachis, Anoubias, Boukolon, two further villages the names of which are lost in lacuna, Dionysias.
Papyrus 1170 (2) recto: columns 8-18, numbered on top as 83-93, continuing the list of tax-payers from Dionysias, Euhemeria, Hermopolis, Herakleia, Theadelpheia, Theoxenis, Kerkeosiris.
Verso:
Account of receipts and expenditure on the estate of which Heroninus was manager in Theadelpheia, addressed to Aurelius Heraclides, senator and former gymnasiarch of Arsinoe and owner of the estate. The expenses include payments to workmen and allowances of wine with the daily record of the work done. Arranged in sixteen columns, some of which much damaged; Papyrus 1170 (2) verso contains columns 1-9, Papyrus 1170 (1) verso columns 10-16. Dated after 25 May 259 and part of the archive of Heroninus.

Papyrus 1170 (1) recto: Seven columns written along the fibres, and traces of another column on the left-hand side;
Papyrus 1170 (2) recto: Continuation of Papyrus 1170 (1) recto, with eleven columns;
Papyrus 1170 (2) verso: Nine columns written across the fibres;
Papyrus 1170 (1) verso: Continuation of Papyrus 1170 (2) verso, with seven columns in poor condition, being columns 1, 3, 5-7 very damaged.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: Papyrus 1170 (1) 350 x 740 mm; Papyrus 1170 (2) 350 x 900 mm. Mounted in two glass cases measuring 405 x 800 mm and 400 x 945 mm respectively.
Script: on the recto cursive hand, neat and clear; on verso less neat and more swift cursive with a tendency of some letters to slightly slope to the right.

Provenance: Theadelpheia, meris of Themistos, Arsinoite Nome, Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 884-1178 from the Reverend Chauncey Murch (b. 1856, d. 1907) on 8 June 1901.
