Encomium (?) (P.Lond.Lit. 141, P.Lond. V 1816a descr., TM 64087, LDAB 5305, MP3 2541), Epic Verses (P.Lond.Lit. 37, P.Lond. V 1816b descr., TM 63516, LDAB 4725, MP3 1813), Mythographus Homericus (P.Lond.Lit. 142, P.Oxy. LVI 3830, P.Lond. V 1816c descr.,TM 61608, LDAB 2757, MP3 1185.3) and Unpublished Document (P.Lond. V 1816a descr., TM 64087)
- Scope & Content:
-
Papyrus 1605a (P.Lond.Lit. 141, P.Lond. V 1816a descr., TM 64087, LDAB 5305, MP3 2541): On the recto is an unpublished document of uncertain nature (maybe a contract?). The verso contains probably an encomium (see line 30). Assigned to the third century.
Papyrus 1605b (P.Lond.Lit. 37, P.Lond. V 1816b descr., TM 63516,LDAB 4725, MP3 1813): Remains of 13 hexameters of unidentified epic poetry with mention of Hermes and Zeus. Assigned to the second century.
Papyrus 1605c (P.Lond.Lit. 142, P.Oxy. LVI 3830, P.Lond. V 1816c descr.,TM 61608, LDAB 2757, MP3 1185.3): The fragment belongs together with P.Oxy. LVI 3830 to a papyrus roll containing Homeric narratives ascribed to the so called “Mythographus Homericus”. The first line of P.Lond.Lit. 142 completes the final remark of a narrative on the Gigantomachy preserved in P.Oxy. LVI 3830, fragment 3, column 2, lines 1-19, and provides the source of the story, Euphorion. A quotation of Iliad IX 447 introduces the following narrative on Phoinix: he was induced by his mother to sleep with his father’s concubine and was subsequently cursed by his father with infertility. He fled then to Peleus. The version of the papyrus is close to the one found in the Scholia-D to the Iliad. Assigned to the second century.

Three papyrus fragments, mounted in a glass case:
Left fragment = Papyrus 1605a: Strip of papyrus written on both sides. On the upper part of the recto, along the fibres, are small portions of 8 lines of a document, followed by blank space. On the verso, across the fibres, are parts of 34 lines in a different hand. The text in lines 1-14 is damaged and mostly illegible.
Upper right fragment = Papyrus 1605b: Fragment probably of a papyrus roll with remains of 13 lines written on the verso across the fibres. Only the upper margin is preserved. There are three acute accents. The recto is blank, except for two characters, a tau or pi on the upper right edge of the papyrus and a L-shaped sign below on the left.
Lower right fragment = Papyrus 1605c: Small fragment of a papyrus roll broken on all sides and containing remains of 10 lines written on the recto along the fibres. The back is blank and no margins are preserved. Further fragments from the same roll are contained in an Oxyrhynchus papyrus published as P.Oxy. LVI 3830.
