Fragments of a roll extracted from mummy cartonnage, further portions of which are now in the Institut für Papyrologie in Heidelberg, inventoried as P. G 406), and at the John Rylands Library, Manchester, inventoried as Gr. 16a.
Recto (TM 61587, LDAB 2736): Fragments of a comedy, preserving a dialogue between the slave Strobilus, who is anxious to get away at utmost speed, and his master, astonished at his behaviour; possibly Menander’s Hydria.
Verso (TM 61252, LDAB 2392): Alphabetical glossary of words starting with omicron (οζ- and οθ-), partly explaining Homeric words; possibly intended for school use (Esposito, Trends in Classics (2009)).

Six fragments of varying size from a papyrus roll recovered from mummy cartonnage, with insect holes and plaster residue in places. Further fragments of the same roll are now held in the Institut für Papyrologie in Heidelberg, inventoried as P. G 406), and at the John Rylands Library, Manchester, inventoried as Gr. 16a. The largest fragment is written on both sides, and bears portions of 3 columns on the front, and remains of 2 columns on the back; the other smaller fragments are written on the front only; fragments B and C preserve portions of 2 columns, while fragments D-F contain parts of a few lines. Fragment E has a dark strain on the back. The fragments are housed in a glass frame.

Dimensions: Fragments of varying size; A: 104 x 245 mm; housed in a glass frame measuring 250 x 300 mm.
Script: Recto: Good-sized, upright cursive hand; paragraphus or blank space mark change of speakers. Verso: different hand of medium size, upright and overall bilinear, with some narrow letterforms.

Origin: Egypt.
Provenance: Ankyropolis (El-Hiba), Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 1821-1841 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in January 1909. Extracted from mummy cartonnage (Mummy A) obtained by Bernard Pyne Grenfell (b. 1869, d. 1926) and Arthur Surridge Hunt (b. 1871, d. 1934) at Hibeh in 1902.
