Letter of Demophon to Ptolemaeus, enclosing the letter that Apollodotus had sent to him concerning the collection of dues and the purchase of Syrian cloths at the price indicated. On the back there is the address and traces of the mummy decoration.

Papyrus slip reused as mummy cartonnage, complete but with holes and surface damage in places; written on both sides. On the front there are 7 lines against the fibres; the margins survive. The modern annotation in red refers to the publication in P.Hib. I. The back bears one line, written along the fibres the other way up in relation to the text on the front, and covered with plaster residue. Remains of the mummy decoration are visible. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Dimensions: 99 x 35 mm; housed in a glass frame measuring 140 x 390 mm.
Script: Neat, regular hand, with some serifs and more cursive in places; slightly uneven towards the ends of the lines.

Origin: Oxyrhynchite nome, Egypt.
Provenance: Ankyropolis (El-Hiba), Egypt. Presented as part of a lot comprising Papyri 1821-1841 by the Egypt Exploration Fund in January 1909. They were extracted from mummy cartonnage obtained by Bernard Pyne Grenfell (b. 1869, d. 1926) and Arthur Surridge Hunt (b. 1871, d. 1934) at Hibeh in 1902.
