- Scope & Content:
-
The fragmentary papyrus codex contains a collection of Cicero’s speeches: the surviving fragments match with De Imperio Cn. Pompei 60–5, 68–71; In Verrem 2.1.1–4, 7–9; 2.2, 12; Pro Caelio 26–49, 51–5. The uniqueness of the codex resides both in its content and text (Klotz 1914; P.Oxy. VIII: 153–4; X: 142–3). In fact, the codex is now part of the Ciceronian recensio. Also, the three speeches are not transmitted together in any other Ciceronian codex. This prompts to the hypothesis that the selection was made according to personal criteria. More specifically, this codex is possibly a private copy written by a Greek-speaking scribe, who at the same time can perhaps be identified with the user of the book (Sánchez-Ostiz 2013: 148–9, 151).

- Extent:
- Fragments from a papyrus codex, additional fragments of which are now in Cologne, Papyrussammlung (inv. P. 2554). The text is arranged in a layout not particularly elegant. Each page of the original codex measured 300 x 230 mm, with a written space 170 mm wide and a variable height of c. 230 mm. The number of lines per page (65–9) is remarkable and unparalleled. Two of the preserved speeches are separated by an explicit/incipit, partly preserved. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

- User Conditions:
- Physical Characteristics:
-
Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: Largest fragment: 283 x 226; housed in a glass frame measuring 320 x 610 mm.
Script: The script is a cursive semi-uncial formed, consisting in unusually small letters and datable between the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 5th century AD (Ammirati 2015: 55, 56, 67, 87; differently Cavallo 2008: 171 proposed a dating to the 4th century AD). Initial letters are often enlarged, while letters at the end of the lines usually have ornamental extensions. Abbreviations are frequent, although used unsystematically and inconsistently. Middle points added by the scribe and blank spaces indicate pauses. The scribe corrected the text through deletions or additions above the line while writing and possibly not collating another exemplar.
