Two columns from a work ‘On the History of Sicyon’, attributed to various authors (Aristotle, Ephorus or Menaechmus), concerning the origin and rise of Orthagoras, tyrant of Sicyon in the seventh century BC. The text refers to his childhood and education, his role as a patrol and then polemarch, and his successes in war.

Papyrus fragment, broken off at the sides and damaged at the top and bottom. The papyrus has darker spots, and the surface is damaged and abraded throughout. Writing is on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. Portions of two columns are preserved, each of 35 lines; each line contained between 13 and 18 letters. The upper and lower margins survive to 60 mm and 72 mm respectively. The intercolumnar space measures 20-23 mm. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: 294 x 108 mm; housed in a glass case measuring 355 x 160 mm.
Script: Severe Style (Formal Mixed). Upright hand with contrast between narrow and broad letters. High and middle stops, paragraphoi and diaeresis occur. An insertion in column 2, line 21, was presumably added by a corrector, who may be responsible of accents and the breathing of column 1, line 15.
