Bid for Purchase of Land (P.Oxy. XIV 1633, TM 21945)

Bid from Aurelius Serenus alias Sarapion for the purchase of 11 aruras of public land in the village of Paeimis, in the Oxyrhynchite nome. The land was originally private property that had been confiscated for some reason. Serenus offers to pay 800 drachmas to the public bank with the extra charges, which is 140 drachmas more than what was offered by the first bidder. With signature of the applicant and official docket at the end.

Fragment of a papyrus sheet, damaged by wormholes throughout and lacking its right-hand side and a few lines on top. Left and bottom margins are extant. Writing is on one side along the fibres. Mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Script: Neat and experienced cursive hand with upright letters; two other hands, more cursive and sloping to the right, from line 35 to end.
