Settlement of Claims (P.Oxy. XIV 1644, TM 5258)

An agreement whereby three brothers, Pasion, Ptolemaeus and Apollonius, belonging to the catoecic cavalry, renounce any claims against their nephew Moschion, son of their deceased sister, as regard to a loan that he had borrowed from their mother. A fine of 500 drachmae will have to be paid by whomever proceeds against Moschion. The docket is on the back.

An almost fully preserved papyrus sheet, with wormholes throughout and broken off at the bottom, but with top, left and right margins extant. Writing is on both sides along the fibres, the back having three lines containing the docket. Housed in a glass case.

Script: Irregular and angular hand, with a tendency for letters to be more compressed towards the end of the line and with more cursive sequences throughout.
