Appointment of a Deputy in the Monastery of Hathor (P.Lond. VI 1913, TM 16857)

An agreement between Aurelius Pageus (Paieous) and the priors of the monastery of Hathor, to appoint Pageus' brother Aurelius Gerontius as a deputy in place of him, as he had been summoned by Constantine to attend the Synod of Caesarea. The duties of the deputy are then listed, among which are the supervision and administration of the affairs of the monastery. At the end there are the subscriptions.

Script: Medium-sized, regular and sloping cursive hand. Different hands for the subscriptions from line 18 to the end.

Provenance: Phathor, Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 2543-2551 from Maurice Nahman (b. 1868, d. 1948) in September 1923. Part of a joint purchase with the University of Michigan, Columbia University and the University of Oslo.
