Letter to Paieous Concerning a Debtor (P.Lond. VI 1915, SB Kopt. III 1668, TM 16853)
- Scope & Content:
-
A letter to the priest Paieous from Herieous, member of the Meletian community, concerning the vicissitudes of Pamontheis, a fellow member and wine-seller who had to borrow a large sum of money which he was unable to pay back. He was forced to sell everything, down to his clothes, and had his children carried off by the creditors. Herieous is now asking for Paieous’ help. On the back there is a postscript, two Coptic lines and the address in the final line, written the other way up. Another letter on the same subject is Papyrus 2545 (P.Lond. VI 1916).
