Request for Cancelling a Loan Agreement Upon Repayment of the Debt (SB V 7634, TM 17992)

A petition addressed to the councillor Aurelius Ammonius and to Aurelius Heliodorus, keepers of the archives in Oxyrhynchus, from four men, who were lent 4500 drachmas with a general lien on their property. As they now have repaid the debt, for which they provide receipt, they ask that the entry recording their liability in the register be annulled. With subscription at the end and name of one of the men on the back.

An almost fully preserved papyrus sheet, lacking the top right-hand edge and torn in places; a few wormholes are visible. Writing is along the fibres, the back only having one line. Housed in a glass case.

Script: Clear and upright semi-cursive, with sequences of ligatured letters; 2 more hands, more cursive and sloping to the right, from line 52 to the end.
