Fragment of a medical treatise, mentioning the eyes and advising as to the preparation of remedies easy to prepare for everyone, made of yoke mixed with a drug known as ‘antidote of Andron’. P.Mich. inv. 1469 is another fragment of the same treatise and concerns diets and the nourishment to be given to constipated patients.

Fragment of a papyrus roll, preserving portions of 24 lines of a column incomplete at the top and right side; parts of the left and lower margins survive. Another fragment from the same roll is a Michigan papyrus (P.Mich. inv. 1469), which contains portions of 24 lines. The generous format and practised hand suggest that this is a copy by a professional scribe. Writing is on one side along the fibres. Mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: 150 x 63 mm; housed in a glass case measuring 195 x 115 mm.
Script: Severe style. Medium-sized and practised hand of a professional scribe; letters are upright; the contrast between narrow and broad letters is not marked. Diple obelismene occurs between lines 15 and 16.

Provenance: Egypt. Purchased with a lot comprising Papyri 2556-2647 in November 1924, as part of a joint purchase with the University of Michigan, Columbia University, Princeton University, New York University, Wilfred Merton (b. 1888, d. 1957), and Alfred Chester Beatty (b. 1875, d. 1968); acquired from Maurice Nahman (b. 1868, d. 1948).
