Regulations of the Synodos of Zeus the Highest (P.Lond. VII 2193, SB V 7835, TM 2462)

The papyrus contains the copy of regulations of an organisation called ‘Association of Zeus the Highest’, which was constituted for one year only. Among the regulations provided it is stated that the president, appointed for one year, is to host a monthly banquet in the sanctuary of Zeus for all members, where libations, pray and any rites are to be performed for the king. All members must obey the president or his attendant and must attend meetings.
On the verso there are accounts possibly relating to the same guild, with names and sums. Blank space separates each entry.

- Upper portion of a papyrus sheet cut from a roll, with a sheet join running down the centre and two further sheet joins at either side. Top and side margins are extant. Written on both sides, along the fibres on the recto and against them on the verso; mounted in one glass case.

Script: Large and loose cursive hand, with enlarged letters at the beginning of the lines.

Provenance: Arsinoite nome (?), Egypt. Purchased with a lot comprising Papyri 2652-2721 from Dr. A. N. Kondilios in July 1925. Part of a joint purchase with the University of Michigan and Columbia University.
