Fragment of a medium- to dark-brown papyrus roll, partially complete at the top, broken off on the other sides; written on one side along the fibres. The back is blank. The front bears portions of two columns; of the first, only the ends of the lines survive, of the second, only the beginnings. Part of the upper margin survives. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Origin: Egypt.
Provenance: Panopolis (Akhmim) (?), Egypt. Purchased by Harold Idris Bell for the British Museum from an antiquities dealer at Akhmim in November 1926 (see Bell, 'A new fragment' (1932)). The lot comprising Papyri 2784-2849 was purchased from various dealers in Upper Egypt and Cairo as part of a joint purchase with the University of Michigan, Yale University, Princeton University, Columbia University, and Wilfred Merton (b. 1888, d. 1957).
