Fragments 1-9: Nine fragments of varying size from a dark-brown papyrus codex, possibly from at least five different leaves; written on both sides. The largest fragment contains one column written on either side and the lower margin.
Papyrus 2823(A): Four fragments from a dark-brown papyrus codex, written on both sides.
Papyrus 2823(B): Five small fragments from a papyrus, two of which bear writing on both sides, the others on one side only; one is blank.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: Papyrus 2823: Fragments of varying size: 205 x 110 mm; reconstructed size of the leaf: 300 x 180 mm. Housed in a glass frame measuring 265 x 460 mm.
Script: Medium-sized, sloping hand; elision is often marked, breathings and occasional accents occur. A: Rough, upright uncial of medium-size, with some letterforms compressed laterally; elision marks and accents occasionally provided; glosses inserted in minute hand. B: Too little remains.

Origin: Egypt.
Provenance: Egypt. Purchased as part of a lot comprising Papyri 2784-2849. Joint purchase arranged with the University of Michigan, Yale University, Princeton University, Columbia University, and Wilfred Merton (b. 1888, d. 1957) from various dealers in November and December 1926. Papyri 2823-2849 were purchased from Maurice Nahman (b. 1868, d. 1948).
