Fragments of Contracts (TM 653736-653737)

Two portions of different contracts, housed together.
Smaller fragment (TM 653736): Upper portion of a contract of sale dated in the 14th indiction in the consulship of Flavius Belisarius (May-December 535). Paulus from the Coptite nome is selling to an inhabitant of Memnoneia; the object of the sale is lost.
Larger fragment (TM 653737): Lower portion of a sixth-century contract of uncertain nature relating to agricultural matters. After the subscription of the scribe who wrote on behalf of the parties involved, a second hand added a penalty clause.

Two fragments from different papyrus sheets; the smaller is broken off at the bottom and the left, whereas it is complete at the top and right, with no margins free. Writing runs along the fibres on one side.
The larger fragment contains the lower portion of a text; it is broken off at the top, but complete at the bottom, left and right. Writing is along the fibres, the back being blank.
Housed in one glass case.

Materials: Papyrus.
Dimensions: Smaller fragment: 93 x 90 mm; larger fragment: 135 x 140 mm; housed in one glass case measuring 360 x 170 mm.
Script: Cursive hands, with a tendency for letters to slope to the right; in the larger fragment a second hand is to be found in the last three lines, with upright letters.
