Haureau (No es e Extraits, xxiv, pt.2, p. 247) attributes the work to Gerard Ithier, Prior of Grandmont, on the authority of a prologue prefixed to it in Bibl. Nat. Ms. lat. 17187; but cf. 8 E. xvii, art. 4. f. 182.

7. [Hugo de S. Victore, De modo orandi]; cc SA. xII, art. 8. The prologue is not in this MS. f. 188. Vellum; ff. 190. 9 1/8 in. x 6 1/8 in. XIII cent. Gatherings of 8 leaves (viii10, x12, xx10, xxii ; from art. 5 (g) onwards they are numbered at the end and have catchwords. Double columns. Artt. 6 and 7 did not originally form part of the volume, as the note on f. 148 b shows (cf. art, 5 m above). A table of contents is given on f. 180 b. Sec.' fol. (art. i) 'triplicia '. At the beginning (ff. 1-8) eight leaves have been inserted from a 14th cent. theological treatise ; the first complete chapter in it is entitled ' De uirtutibus in genere', and beg. ' Multis modis diffinitur seu describitur virtus' . On f. 9 is a table of contents (as far as art. 5 r), and on ff. 10-13, with conclusion on f. 9, a table of chapters to Anselm's works.
