The manuscript includes a collection of prayers translated into Latin, French and Italian by Princess, afterwards Queen, Elizabeth when she was twelve years old; preceded by a Latin dedication to Henry VIII (ff. 1r-5r). This preface preface dated 30 December 1545 and addressed from Hertford is the only extant letter from Elizabeth to her father, incipit: 'Precationes seu meditationes quibus mens commovetur ad omnes perturbationes... per Nobilis. et Pientis. D. Catharinam Anglie, Francie Hibernique reginam collecte et per D Elizabetam ex anglico converse.'

Princess Elizabeth, the future Elizabeth I (b. 1533, d. 1603), Queen of England and Ireland: translated by her into Latin French and Italian and presented to her father Henry VIII as a New Year's present in 1546; perhaps to be identified with a prayerbook seen by Philip Julius, Duke of Stettin-Pomerania in the 'Queen's cabinet' at Whitehall in 1602 (see von Bülow, Diary, 1982); passed to the Old Royal library (the English Royal library), but not regorded in the old catalogues.
Presented to the British Museum by George II in 1757 as part of the Old Royal Library.

...Quod [opus] quum tam pium sit et pio studio atque magna industrigg Regine illustrissime fuerit anglice collectum, et propterea ab omnibus magis expetendum et a maiestate tua in maiori precio habendum, sit accommodatissimum mihi visum est, vt hoc, quod argumento suo rege, collectione vero regina, dignissimum est, a me filia tua in alias linguas conuerteretur, que non modo virtutum tuarum imitatrix, sed illarum etiam heres, esse debeam. In quo quicquid meum non est amplissima laude dignum est, quemadmodum totus liber est tum argumento pius, tum ingeniose collectus et aptissimo ordine dispositus; quicquid vero meum est, si in eo aliquis error insit, tamen propter ignorationem, etatem, breue tempus studii et voluntatem veniaim meretur , et si mediocre sit; am si nullam laudem mercatur, tamen, si beile accipiatur, me vehementer excitabit vt, quantum annis cresco, tantum etiam scientia et dei timore crescam, itaque fiet vt Illum religiosius colam et maiestatem tuam officiosius obseruem.
