CANON LAW TREATISES of Bernardus Bottonus, of Parma, canon of Bologna (d. 1263), viz.
1. 'Casus Bernardi super decretalibus': the Casus Longi, a summary analysis of the decretals of Gregory IX (see Schulte, Gesch. der Quellen des can. Rechts, ii, p. 114). Printed, Bologna, 1487, Lyons, 1500, &c. After f. 79 a considerable lacuna (iii, tit. xxxviii. 28-iv, tit. xvii. 7) has been filled in a '4th cent. charter-hand by some casus from another author. Beg. 'Rex pacificus: Premissa salutacione sic pone casum'. f. 2.
2. 'Nouarum constitucionum casus': summary by the same author of the new decretals of Innocent IV. Not printed in the Lyons cd. and not noticed by Schulte. Beg.'Cum in mullis. Casus: papa existente in concilio'. f. 127.
At the end are added in a late 13th cent. hand:-(a) 'Decretum regis Francie super prouisionibus Oxonie factis': part of Louis IX's award made at Amiens, Jan. 1264 (see Foedera, Record ed., i. p. 434). f. 1132 ;-(b) Narrative of the battle of Lewes. Beg. 'Die dominica proxina post festum sanctorum Gordiani et Epimachi anno gracie mcclxiii (sic, for 1264) Yeniunt reges'. in Historical Review, xi (1896), p. 520. f. 132. Printed in Engl. Vellum; ff. 132. 111/2 in. x 71/2 in. XIII cent. Double columns. Sec. fol. 'depitarunt'. Initials in red. On f. 2 is a 14th cent. owner's name, 'Liber N. de Ysuile'. Old Royal press-mark 'no.
