BIBLICAL COMMENTARIES in Latin by Petrus Cantor, precentor of Notre-Dame at Paris (1184), afterwards Dean of Reims (d., in Longpont Abbey, 1197). None of these appear to have been printed. Sermons and commonplaces have been added somewhat later, and marginal annotations occur throughout in hands of about the end of the 13th cent. Contents :-
1. 'Liber psalmorum': commentary on the Psalms. Many MSS. of this work in French libraries are men. tioned by Oudin, Scriptt. Eccl. ii, col. 1660. Preface beg. 'Flebat Iohannes quia non crat qui aperiret'; com. mentary, 'Beatus: Hesdras propheta reparator bibliothece'. f. 4. Art. 2 is a later insertion on a blank leaf. 2. Verses (30 elegiac couplets) on the Evangelists, being a slightly altered form of the introduction to the Gospel section of Petrus Riga's Aurora, (cf. 2 D. XXIII), taken from the Floridus Aspectus of the same author, a selectionof his own verses compiled by him for Archbishop Samson of Reims (see Haurdau in Not. et Extr. xxix, pt. ii, p. 242). Printed in Beaugendre's edition of Hildebert (Migne, Patr. Lat. clxxi. 1389). Beg. 'Tange, Camena, stilum, pallentes (sic, al. phaleratos) exue cultus'. f. 171.
3. 'Incipiunt glose super unum euuangelium ex quatuor secundum mag. Petrum Parisiensem cantorem': commentary on the Diatessaron or harmony of the Gospels which was incorporated by Victor, Bishop of Capua (541-554), in his edition (codex Fuldensis) of the Bible, andwas mainly derived from Tatian (see Theodor Zahn, Forschungen, 1881, J. Rendel Harris, The Diatessaron of Tatian, 1890). Victor's text is printed in Migne, lxviii. 255. For another copy of the gloss, with the text accompanying it, See 2 C. IX. A table of tituli is on ff. 171b, 294. Preface beg. 'Quatuor facies uni erant: Sicut trinitas personarum'; commentary, 'In principio: Dominus Iesus Christus cum esset eternaliter'.

Preface beg. 'Liquefacia est terra, &c.: Columpne ecclesie'; commentary, 'Primum: Christus resurgens a mortuis'. Mentioned in a Lyons library (Oudin, l.c.). On f. 389 is the note 'magister Will. de Weleburne habet quaternum qui hic deest de notulis super Actus', the borrowed quire having doubtless been afterwards returned. f. 381. At the end of this article is the colophon 'Explicit series noui t[estamenti] nisi quod Iohannes Apocalypsin addidit'. Between artt. 6 and 7 are several sermons (see below).
