DECRETALS and commentary, viz.:-
1. Decretals of Gregory IX (compilation of Raymundus), with the preface addressed to Bologna. Marginal 'glossa ordinaria' as in 9 C. I, art. 1. Colophon, 'Explicit textus decretalium. laus tibi sit, Christe, quoniam liber explicit iste'. f. 3.
2. 'Constitutiones Innocentii pape quarti composite in concilio Lugdunensi prime sedis Galliarum'; slightly different from 9 F. II, art. 2, and the printed text in Mansi's Concilia. Space left for gloss. Several decretals of Alexander IV are added (f. 291 b) at the end. f. 282. Prefixed to art. 1 (ff. 1 b, 2) are coloured trees of consanguinity and affinity, and at the end (f. 297) is a table of tituli and rubrics art. 1. Vellum; ff. 299. 171/4 in. x 111/4 in. Late XIII cent. Written in Italy or S. France. Sec. fol. in text 'mortuos', in gloss 'omnino'. Illuminated or coloured initials (French style), a few with small rniniatures. The subjects are (besides the trees as above. and small heads In inany initials): (1) Gregory delivering the decretals. f. 3 ; (2) The Trinity. f. 3b; (3) Judge and litigants. f. 72; (4) Priest celebrating Mass. f. 134 b; (5) Marriage. f. 199 b; (6) judge kneeling before the Pope. f. 221 b. Erased note on f. 1, iste decretales sunt Guillelmi de Valogiis (Valogniis?) presbyteri et fuerunt empte a preceptore beati Augustini, videlicet die xx rnensis Apr. anno dom. [millesimo tricentesimo] septuagesimo secundo'. Other names of owners are Bernardus de -? clericus dioc. Carnotensis? (f. 296 b), Johan Peche (f. 295), and John Theyer (f. 3). The name of Charles Theyer (f. 296 b) is also apparently in his grandfather's hand. Theyer sale-cat. no. 289 ?; CMA. 6420.
