DIGESTVM VETVS, or first part (cf. 11 C. III, &c.) of the Digest of Justinian. The inscriptiones give the jurists' names only. The text is preceded by a table of tituli and the constitution 'Omnem'. Ends with lib. xxiv, tit. ii 'erit probandum'. Marginal gloss (apparatus of Accursius), as in 11 D. III. The fly-leaves, among many law notes, contain notes of disputations by magistri Benedictus de Paston, Steph. de Ketlesbur (see 11 D. III, f. 248), Tho. de Plumstok (f. 1), and Joh. de Stradword (f.2). On f 1. is 'mem.quod Warinus de Webbeley wendidit librum istum Iohanni de Chyw in dic s. Marci euang. a.d. mlccclxiil in domo Will. de P[e?] chow pro xxii.s. vi.d.' There are also notes of pledging, viz. 'caucio Will W. . . . exposita in cista Wynton [at Oxford pro una marca die sabb. in festo s. Cedde ep. et conf. a.d. mocccxxxv' [2 Mar. 1335/8], with a further cautio of Will. Gilet [28 Mar. 1336] (f. 1 b), and 'caucio Will. de Carliolo pro xxxi.s, n. d. (f. 258 b). Vellum; ff. 258. 161/2 in. x 101/2 in. Early XIV cent. Sec. fol. '-entes Urbanus' or 'Romanus incerto'. Initials (on f. 5 a borderinitial) flourished in red and blue. Somewhat peculiar quiresignatures, slightly resembling 9 F. VIII. At the end is a register, 'Istud volumen continet viginti et unum quaternos et quilibet quatemus continet duodecim folia et preter hec sunt duo folia (ff. 3, 4) inserta pro prologo voluminis'. Old Royal press-mark 'no. 274' (Westm. invent. of 1542, Add. MS. 25469, f. 28); cat. of 1666, f. 9 b; CMA. 8425, 8426, or 8427.
