A roll of maxims about pride, created for Jane Lumley (1537-78), Baroness Lumley, daughter of Henry FitzAlan (1512-80), 19th earl of Arundel. Monograms JOANNA LVMLEIA.
Dated to between Jane’s marriage to John Lumley (d. 1609), 1st Baron Lumley, by 1553 and her death in 1578.
A similar roll, possibly in the same hand, was made for Jane's father, Henry FitzAlan, earl of Arundel, and is Royal MS 14 B II.
Decoration:
Decorated capitals in red, gold, teal and purple.
Gold headings.
Red, teal and yellow pen flourishes.
