WALSINGHAM AND OTHER PAPERS. Transcripts of State Papers, relating to the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, viz:-
(1) Transcripts of correspondence of Sir Francis Walsingham with Queen Elizabeth I, Lord Burghley, Lord Leicester and others, during Walsingham's two embassies in France to negotiate an alliance between England and France, in 1570-1573 and in 1581. Imperfect at the beginning (the first leaf of the old foliation being f. 11). The transcripts were made by John Caborne in 1601-1602 (cf. ff. 214, 256b). The whole of the correspondence from this or similar transcripts in the collection of Sir Dudley Digges was printed in 1655 under the title of The Compleat Ambassador. ff. 1-256b.
(2) Transcripts (18th cent.) of letters from Queen Elizabeth to various princes; 1559-1602. Latin. Ff. 257-265 are extracted from Literae procerum Europae by J. C. Lünig, Leipzig, 1712, to whose pages references are given; and ff. 266-279 are from a collection, apparently in MS., entitled 'Acta publica Foederatorum'. ff. 257-280b. Paper; ff. 280. Folio.
