BIRCH'S 'INTRODUCTION', addressed 'To the Right Honble Philip [Yorke] Lord Viscount Royston', of the above 'Historical Letters' (cf. Add. MSS. 4176-4178), dated 29 Sept. 1760, in which he gives biographical notes of some of the principal writers. A note (f. 29) by Birch altering, in the above draft title, the words 'Lord Viscount Royston' to 'Earl of Hardwicke' shows that he had not even in 1764 when the latter succeeded, given up hope of publishing the letters. Paper; ff. 31. Quarto. A.D. 1760.
