Transcripts of papers, letters, etc., made by Birch in preparation for his The Life of Henry, Prince of Wales, eldest son of King James I, compiled chiefly from his own Papers, and other Manuscripts, 1760. They include (a) The draft title-page of 'The Life', etc., on which Birch has written 'Begun, Monday January 1, 1759. The first Draught finish'd Monday Janu. 29, 1759. It was revis'd in Febry'. f. 1;- (b) Three drafts of the dedication to George, Prince of Wales. ff. 4-6b, 11- 13b, 130-131 b;-(c) Extract, from Harley MS. 6279, of the 'Life of Phineas Pette'. ff. 26-35b;-(d) 'A Relation of prince Henry's noble and virtuous Disposition and of sundry his witty and pleasant Speeches; Directed to the right Honble. the Lord Lumley and his Lady' (John Lumley, 1st Baron Lumley, d. 1609). ff. 146- 161 ;-(e) Particulars of the Charter granting the Duchy of Cornwall to the Prince; 1 Sept. 1610. f. 172. No draft of 'The Life' itself appears in the volume, but extracts from the letters, many of which are copied from Harley MS. 7007, are printed therein. Some letters to Birch on the subject of the Life are added at the end of the volume. Paper; ff. 186. Quarto. XVIII cent.
