BILLS OF MORTALITY
'A Collection of the yearly Bills of Mortality from 1657-1757 inclusive: together with several other Bills of an earlier Date', being collections, drafts, etc., prepared by Thomas Birch for his printed edition of the above work in 1759; circa 1757. The four treatises on the same or kindred subjects which are mentioned on the title-page of the manuscript are not included, but were inserted in the printed edition, viz.: (1) Observations on the Bills of Mortality, by Capt. John Graunt, F.R.S.;- (2) Another Essay in political Arithmetic, by Sir William Petty;- (3) Observations on the past growth ... of London, by Corbyn Morris;- (4) A comparative view of the diseases, etc., by J. P. (James Postlewayt). The Bills of an earlier date are for various years between 1605 and 1647 (ff. 25-42), and notes are included for Bills as early as 1592. Inserted at f. 57 is 'The number of the inhabitants of Rhode Island' for 1730, 1748 and 1755. Bound at the end (ff. 65-78) is a copy of an Order in a case relating to a legacy to the combined parishes of St. Margaret Pattens and St. Gabriel Fenchurch Street, of which Birch was the incumbent, and other London parishes; 17 July 1762. The attorney's bill to the parish for the action is attached. Paper; ff. 78. Folio. Circ. A.D. 1757.
