FORBES PAPERS. Vol. XVI (ff. 126). 'The History of Scotland, written in Latin by ... George Buchanan, Now Done unto English'; 18th cent. The passages translated are Books IV. ch. i-xxv, ff. 2-5 1;-VIII, i-xii, ff. 52-76;-XII, i-xvi, ff. 82-115. An inserted passage (ff. 116, 117) in another hand is endorsed 'Hart's translation of Bp. Kennedy's Speech' (Bk. XII, ch. x, etc.). At the end are (a) a list of sixty-six criticisms of the text of William Bond's translation of the History (first published in 1722) with (f. 124) the complete passages criticized (XI. ch. 1, etc.). ff. 119- 123;-and (b) a passage of the history, in shorthand (G. Ridpath's system). f. 126.
