BIRCH'S GREAVES COLLECTIONS
Collections for the life and account of the writings of John Greaves, Savilian Professor of Astronomy at Oxford; 1646-1737. Made by Thomas Birch in view of his edition of the Miscellaneous Works of J. Greaves, 1737, 2 vols. The chief contents are:-
(1) The 'Life', as written for the article in Bayle's General Dictionary, Historical and Critical, rev. ed., 1737. Cf. also the 'Life' prefixed to Birch's edition of the Miscellaneous Works of John Greaves, 1737. Two copies, the first imperfect. Followed by biographical notes. ff. 3-29.
(2) Correspondence of J. Greaves; 1638-1651. Copies. Printed in the Miscellaneous Works, ii, p. 434-469. ff. 30-49.
(3) Observations on his travels in Italy, Constantinople, Egypt, etc.; 1637-1640. Copies. ff. 50-86.
