MEDICAL COLLECTIONS
Collections of treatises, chiefly medical, and letters of doctors and their patients; 17th- 18th centt. The names of the writers of the letters will be found in the Index of the present Catalogue. The treatises are as follows:-
(1) 'De subiecto primo et imediato Caloris partium fluidarum et solidarum Corporis animalis', etc. ff. 16-20b.
(2) Notes on portions of the Praxis Medica, Amsterdam, 1657, of Henricus Regius, Professor of Medicine at Utrecht. Latin. ff. 21-30b.
(3) 'Dissertatio de proxima nutritionis materia', by Walter Needham, M.D. (d. circa 1691). Autograph. ff. 34-44b.
(4) 'Passio Gallica MDCLVIII', a political tract on the relations of France and Germany and the influence of Cardinal Mazarin. German. ff. 45-49.
(5) Abstracts of orders of the Corporation of London and other memoranda relating to the Plague; 1544-1666. ff. 50-59b, 77, 80.
(6) 'The History of Anatomy by Mr [Alexander] Monro, Professor of Anatomy in the University of Edinburgh'. Autograph (?). It is not identical with the 'Essay on Comparative Anatomy' printed in his Collected Works, edited by his son, Dr. Alexander Monro, secundus, in 1781, but in the'Life' prefixed to the Works (p. xiv) a 'History of Anatomy' is mentioned as being the subject of his first lecture to the University in 1725. ff. 81-136b.
(7) 'Bemerkungen von Kopff Wunden and die Nothwendigkeit zu trepaniren nebst einer Anleitung die Kopff Wunden allgemein gut zu behandeln', a treatise on trepanning by Johann Ulrich Bilguer (d. 1796). Apparently autograph. ff. 137-178b. Paper; ff. 178. Folio. XVII-XVIII centt.
