SPECIMENS of handwriting, notes and tables of mnemonics, etc., as follows:-
(1) 'A Coppie booke of the vsuall hands written: sett foorth by Richard Gething, Master in Writinge: ... Anno 1616'. Engraved. It formed the foundation of his Calligraphotechnia, 1652. ff. 3-29.
(2) 'The Penmans daily Practise or Cyfering Book' by John Ayres (d. 1700), author of A Tutor to Penmanship, 1698. On f. 63b is written the name 'Jos. Cooke', 23 Dec. 1707. ff. 30-63.
(3) Papers, some in the hand of John Pell, concerning mnemonics, the art of memory of Caleb Morley, and a scheme by John Beale for a code for the Royal Society, 1663. Inserted (f. 67) is 'Architectiones seu Inventiones sex' by Henry Reginald, written on minute leaves, and addressed to James I in 1604. ff. 64-117. Paper; ff. 117. Folio. XVII cent.
