(1) Extracts from the commonplace book of Robert Sidney, 2nd Earl of Leicester. The events referred to occurred during the period 1625-1651. In an early 18th cent. hand, with numerous corrections. ff. 1-33.
(2) 'Sur la Maxime de M. de Rochefoucault - Qu'il y a des mariages commodes mais point de délicieux'. In Birch's autograph. ff. 34-42b.
(3) An imitation of Spenser, beg. 'Ye baleful follow'rs of the Blatant Beast'; apparently from a work entitled The Seasons. Printed. f. 43.
(4) Copies by Birch of the introductory letter by James Paris Duplessis, formerly servant to Samuel Pepys, addressed to Sir Hans Sloane, 1730?, and of one of the accounts of monstrosities, contained in Sloane MS. 5246. ff. 44, 44b.
(5) Selections by Birch from 'Merry passages & jests' by Sir Nicholas L'Estrange,1st Bart. 1629, d. 1669, copied from Harley MS. 6395, with the names of the contributors added in locis from the index to that MS.
