BIRCH COMMONPLACE-BOOK
Commonplace-book of Thomas Birch, written in his student days, 1725 and 1726, and consisting chiefly of extracts in Latin, Greek, and English, from classical and modern writers on abstract subjects. There are also some poems written by Birch, including (f. 56) a Latin poem, dated 1721, on the inauguration-day of George I; and scattered about in the second half of the MS. is an alphabetical list of writers, etc., chiefly English and of the 17th century, with references (in most cases) to writings giving information about their life and works (for the pages on which they occur, see f. 152); circa 1732 (see f. 106b).
