Historical collections (formerly part of Clarendon MS. Vol. 35). Artt. 1 and 2 of the original MS. (ff. 1-97 in the old foliation) are missing (see E. Gibson, Catalogus Librorum MSS. in Bibliotheca Tenisoniana, 1693, p. 9). Viz.:-
(1) Copies in Ware's autograph. (a) Preface of William of Malmesbury to his Abbreviatio Amalarii. Printed in Migne, Patr. Lat. clxxix, col. 1771. f. 1;- (b) Anonymous preface to an abbreviation of the 'de Topographia et Debellatione [sic] Hiberniae'of Giraldus Cambrensis. ff. 1 b-2b;- (c) Extracts from the Liber de Mensura of Dicuil. The work was printed, ed. G. Parthey, Berlin, 1870. ff. 3-5b;- (d) Extracts from the De Antiquitate Glastoniensis Ecclesiae of William of Malmesbury, taken from Cotton MS. Vespasian D. xxii. ff. 7-18.
(2) Tract in an early 16th cent. hand, ostensibly a single work (the leaves bear the running numbers 116-139 in a 17th cent. foliation) but in fact consisting of two separate imperfect works as follows:-(a) 'Coniunccio Arthuri et Veneris' by Richard Maryng, brother at the house of Bonhommes at Edington, co. Wilts, being a treatise on the astrological portents for the proposed marriage between Prince Arthur and Katherine of Aragon and the genealogical connections of the couple; circ. 1501. ff. 19-24b, 34-42b;-(b) Chapters 7-11 and part of chapter 12 of a polemical treatise on demons, heresy, witchcraft and simony. Latin. ff. 25-33b.
(2) Fragment of annals of Dublin; 1553-1555. Vellum. On the verso of ff. 43 and 44 are lists of names principally of 16th cent. mayors of Dublin. ff. 43-45.
(4) Fragment of the Laws of Edward the Confessor; circ. 1400. Latin. The Laws were printed from Cotton MS. Titus A. xxvii and Harley MS. 746 in Ancient Laws and Institutes of England, Record Commission, 1831, pp. 190-200. f. 46.
(5) Historical notes relating to Ireland made by Sir James Ware and his amanuensis from MSS. in the Cotton Library and elsewhere. ff. 47-52b.
