STUART COLLECTION. Vol. XIV (ff. 137). Collection of arms, etc., made by Richard Wallis; late 17th cent. Autograph. The arms, which include records of grants, funeral achievements, etc., are painted and in trick, the latest dated example being 1699 (f. 92b). A large number are arms borne by Londoners. In some cases the initials of the granting heralds are given (e.g. f. 62b) and other drawings are marked with the names of herald painters (cf. ff. 82-12, verso only, passim). At ff. 130b-133 are drawings of standards and banners, chiefly of the Ironmongers Company. The volume contains the following pedigrees, with arms:-(a) the Sparke family of Glemham, co. Suff. f. 124;-(b) Samuel Palmer and Henry Whittingham, merchants of Oporto, with Latin copies of certificates from Wallis testifying their English ancestry; 1684. ff. 124-126b;-(c) Sadler, of co. Salop. f. 127. Also bound in the volume (ff. 134, 136) are a pedigree and notes on the family of Dr. John Wallis; early 18th cent. Cf. also Add. MS. 4964, f. 124. Old number 'N. 5' (f. 1).
