Pinter Archive. 'The Servant'; [1961-1963]. Mostly typewritten. An adaptation of the novel by Robin Maugham. Joseph Losey first approached Pinter about the adaptation in 1960. In 1961 Michael Anderson acquired the film rights and he commissioned a script from Pinter, but he could not secure financial backing. Losey took over the rights and worked with Pinter on a new script that went into production in 1963. Directed by Joseph Losey and released in 1963. First published in Five Screenplays, Methuen (1971). [Previous reference: Loan 110A/52].
