Latin poem on the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, by Michael Wallace, Professor of Philosophy at Glasgow. With marginal corrections and notes.
Printed in 1606 by Richard Field, as Michael Valesius [Wallace], In serenissimi Regis Jacobi, Britanniae magnae, Galliarum, Hiberniae, &c monarchae. Ab immanissima papanae factionis hominum conjuratione, liberationem foelicissimam Carmen έπιχαρτικόν.
Marginal numberings made in this copy (e.g. ff. 4v, 5v) correspond to the page divisions in the printed edition of 1606. A list of books at the rear of the manuscript contains several books printed by Richard Field in 1605.
f. 1r: Title page. ‘In Serenissimi Regis Jacobi, Britanniae magnae, Galliarum, Hiberniae etc. monarchae, ab immanissima Papanae factionis hominum conjuratione, liberationem foelicissimam Carmen έπιχαρτικόν’.
f. 1v: Dedicatory verse addressed to King James I. Signed ‘Tua majestatis obervantissimus: &c’.
ff. 2r-15v: Michael Wallace, ‘In Serenissimi Regis Jacobi, Britanniae magnae, Galliarum, Hiberniae etc. monarchae, ab immanissima Papanae factionis hominum conjuratione, liberationem foelicissimam Carmen έπιχαρτικόν’.
ff. 15v-16r: Notes, pen-trials, names, date and a list of books.
The books listed are ‘The generall practice of physick’ (i.e. STC 25864); ‘Lobelij adversaria de balsamo et cinamonno’ (possibly sigs. Qq2-Zz5 of STC 16650); and ‘D. Mathaei Gwinne orationes duas’ (i.e. STC 12554).
