'The Church History of Ireland from the first plantation of Christianity there unto this present age; describing diverse of the Irish synods, their decrees Canons and Constitutions, the epistles that passed between the Kings of England, Archbishops of Canterbury, and the antient Kings and Bishops of Ireland before the conquest of it by King Henry the Second; a brief account of the religion of the antient Irish, and of their most eminent writers with their characters and the books they have written; diverse letters written also by the Popes and their Legates to the Kings and Bishops of Ireland, and their collections of vast summes of moneys there; a description of the Irish Abbeys monateries and relious houses, with their founders and charters; the time of dividing Ireland into four Archbishopricks, and the uniting of diverse Bishopricks with an exact succession of the Irish Bishops and their memorable acts, and of the Lords Lieutenants and Lords Deputies and Lords Justices; and a narrative of the two grand Rebellions in Ireland, viz. that of Tyrone and the other in the year 1641. It is dificient from the words 'June 25th [1599]. During the said Munster's journey the Lord Lieutenant wrote a letter unto Queen Elizabeth, giving her an account of the manners of the Irish People in general and of the disaffection of the Irish Nobility and Gentry to the English Government and the Protestant Religion together with the state of Ireland at that time — .'
