Paper, 12mo, ff. 59, XVII century.
A miscellaneous collection of jests, stories, reparties, etc., in prose and verse, written apparently in 1627, by someone who was connected with Cambridge. Among these the following may be specified:-
1. 'The triming of Tom Nashe,' f. 2,
Begin:-
'Harke, hark my maysters, and be still, and give good eare
And I will sing as merrye a jeast as you have hearde this yeare.'
2. 'The taming of a shrew.' f. 3,
Begin:-
'All you that are assembled here come listen to my song,
But first a pardon I must crave for feare of farther wrong.'
3. 'The loosing of his love.' f.4,
Begin:-
'In spring of yeare when weather waxed warme,
And birds began to sit on every tree,
I walkte abroad, thinking to take noe harme,
And looke what harme did happen unto me,
I saw a birde tho' blacke she was of hew,
Sing sweet me thought, oh that she had sung true!'
4. 'The horse race' between Corbet, Ellerton and Appleton,
from Severhill to Popleton ash. f. 4. b.

5. Invitation to purchase beauty, gentry, etc. f. 5.
