Grant by Alexandria daughter of Ralph fitz Bernard, Matilda, Hawise, Beatrice, Beatrice’s fiancé William, and Aime, to Stixwould Priory [Lincolnshire], of all their lands in Huntingdon and the advowson of St Andrew’s Church, Wilgebia, so that they may forever partake in the spiritual benefits of the house. The two witness lists include many women. Beatrice’s portion of the grant was given at Neuton.
Endorsed: in a 12th-century hand, ‘alexandrie et sororum ei. de Pafnat de Wiliroby’; in a 16th-century hand, ‘Rob[er]t H / Alex[and]r[a] uxor eius / w[illel]m[us] filius predicti Rob[er]t[i] / Hugo Spon filius p[re]dic[ti] Alex[andra]’.
Affixed with an imperfect seal of Alexandria, lozenge, red, with a full-length image of Alexandria in a long dress with long mauches, right hand outstretched, with the legend, ‘sigillum alexandrie filie radulfi bernardi’ (see Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887-1900), II, p. 377).
