Grant by Richard de Camville (d. 1217) and Eustacia Basset, his wife, for their souls and those of their ancestors and successors, to Bicester Priory [Oxfordshire] and Prior Robert, of a messuage that was once held by Walter of Crockewelle; dated between Richard and Eustacia’s marriage in 1200 and Richard’s death in 1217.
Endorsed: in a 13th-century hand, ‘Crocwell’; in a 14th-century hand, ‘Eustacia Bassi / [illegible] in / [illegible]’.
Affixed with two seals. The first, an imperfect seal of Richard de Camville, lozenge, brown, with a full-length image of a horse, with the legend, ‘sigill[um] ricardi de capvill’. The second, an imperfect seal of Eustacia Basset, lozenge, brown, with a full-length image of Eustacia in a long dress, facing left, her left hand on her stomach, her right hand holding a lily, and the legend, ‘sigillum eus…iue basset’ (see Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887-1900), II, p. 376).
