Acknowledgement of the supremacy of Baldwin, archbishop of Trier, by Gerlach of Limburg, Kunegunde, his wife, and Gerlach, their son.
Endorsed: in an 18th-century hand, ‘Gerlach herren von Limburg, Cunegunde pri…[illegible] gunir / Gerlach von Limburg, isr altustur vosn / Rudolfo graf von Wercheim, Gerlach graf Nassau /Friedrich von Leiningen, dumprobost Worms / Gerlach herren von Iseniburg / burgomeister rinse Birts von Limberg. / 1344’.
Affixed with eight seals. The first, a fragmentary seal of the citizens of Limberg, oval, brown, with a tower with a heraldic shield upon it, two bars, with the fragmentary legend, ‘sig… …te’. Reverse: a counterseal, with two towers and a heraldic shield, chequy, with the legend, ‘s[igillum] civium’.
The second, an imperfect equestrian seal of Gerlach, lord of Limburg, oval, brown, with Gerlach armed and armoured, a fess chequy between six billets on his shield, the arms of Limburg, with the fragmentary legend, ‘sigillum ger… …min… …impurch’. Reverse: a counterseal, with a heraldic shield with no surviving detail, with the legend, ‘s[igillum] secretum gerlaci d[omi]ni in limpurch’.
The third, an imperfect seal of Kunegunde, oval, brown, with a full-length image of Kunegunde holding a heraldic shield in each hand, on the right, three mullets pierced, on the right, a fess chequy between six billets on his shield, the arms of Limburg, with the legend, ‘sigillum kungundis domine de lympurch’.
The fourth, an imperfect seal of Gerlach, son of Gerlach lord of Limburg, oval, brown, with a helmet and a heraldic shield,a fess chequy between six billets on his shield, the arms of Limburg, with the legend, ‘gerlaci d[e] limpurg’.
The fifth, a fragmentary equestrian seal of Gerlach, count of Nassau, oval, brown, with Gerlach armed and armoured, a billettée, a lion rampant on his shield, the arms of Nassau, with the fragmentary legend, ‘s[igillum gerlaci c…’.
The sixth, a very fragmentary equestrian seal of Rudolph, count of Wercheim, oval, brown, only part of the horse remains, with the fragmentary legend, ‘…miti…’.
The seventh, an imperfect seal of Friedrich von Leiningen, lozenge, brown, with an image of St Peter, a key in his right hand, a book in his left, beneath a gothic canopy, a heraldic shield in the base, with three eagles displayed, two and one, the arms of Leiningen, with the legend, ‘s[igillum] friderici de lyningen prepositi ecc[lesi]e worm[ensis]’.
The eighth, an imperfect seal of Gerlach, lord of Isemburg, oval, brown, with a heraldic shield, with two bars, the arms of Isenburg, with the fragmentary legend, ‘…aci de ysenburg’.
