Will of Margaret Paston (1422-84), widow, wife of John Paston senior and daughter and heir of John Mautby. She leaves her body to be buried in the aisle of Mautby Church, Norfolk, before the image of the Virgin Mary and beside the bodies of her ancestors, and gives 20s to the church.
She makes a bequest to Mautby Church to improve its floor and walls, leaves instructions for her marble tombstone, her funeral procession, and masses to be celebrated for her soul.
She also makes bequests to hospitals in Mautby, the churches and people of Freton, Basingham, Matcask, Gresham, the poor of Sparham, Redham Church, religious houses and hospitals in Norwich and Yarmouth, the chapel of Ffeld, Norwich Cathedral, lepers in Norwich and Yarmouth, households in St Peter Mancroft parish in Norwich, St Michael’s Coslany, Norwich.
She makes bequests to her son Edmund Paston, his wife Katherine, their son Robert, her daughter Anne, her husband William Yelverton, her sons William and John Paston, John’s wife Margery, John’s children William and Elizabeth, Christine daughter of John Paston the knight, John Palle son of Margaret’s daughter Margery, her goddaughters, her servant Agnes Swan, Simon Gerard, John Heythe, and her household.
She appoints her son John Paston, squire, Thomas Drentall, clerk, Simon Gerard, and Walter Limington her executors.
