Gilbert Foliot, Bishop of Hereford (b. c. 1110, d. 1187) grants an indulgence for twenty days, to all those visiting the relics of St James the Apostle at Reading Abbey, upon or during the octave of his festival.
Endorsed: 'Gileb[ertus]. Hereford. d[e] absolutio[n]e penite[n]tiu[m] i[n] festo s[an]c[t]i I[acobus]. XX d[ies].'
Affixed with a seal, showing the Bishop, full-length, with a stringed mitre, lifting his right hand in benediction and holding a pastoral staff in his left hand (Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887), no. 1599).
