Anne of Bohemia (b. 1366, d. 1394), Queen of England and wife of Richard II (r. 1377-1399), grants to John del Shagh (fl. 1377-1416), vicar of Prestbury [Cheshire], lands measuring 32 x 15 feet in the town of Macclesfield, Cheshire, for building purposes, subject to the condition of leaving space to pass and repass; given at Westminster, 20 November 1390 [14 Richard II].
Endorsed: in a 14th-century hand, ‘Maccleffeld’ with a manicule.
Affixed with Anne’s red seal; within finely designed gothic device of tracery and foliage, a shield of arms ensigned with crown of three points: France quartering England; impaling the German Empire quartering Bohemia. The legend reads: ‘S : ANNE : REGINE : FRANCIE : ET : ANGLIE : ET : DNE : HYBERNIE :’ (Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887-1900), I, p. 101).
