Grant by Hawise [d. 1214], countess of Aumale, to Fulk de Oiri of land in Hedon, Yorkshire. Addressed to the bailiff of Hedon and all the people of the same vill; dated to between 1179, when Hawise became countess, and 1214, when she died.
Endorsed: in a 13th-century hand, ‘Hedonn’.
Affixed with a fragmentary seal of Hawise, lozenge, brown, with a woman in a long dress. Reverse: counterseal with a heraldic shield, detail lost, and the fragmentary legend, ‘…ewidis com… …am’.

George James Finch-Hatton (b. 1815, d. 1887), 11th Earl of Winchilsea and 6th Earl of Nottingham, 1869.
Purchased by the British Museum from G. Richard Attenborough, 12 July 1873, together with Add Chs 19788-22613, for £1100. This followed an unsuccessful attempt to negotiate the purchase of these charters from the earl of Winchilsea in 1869.
