Quitclaim by Isabella, widow of Warin of Bassingburn, to William de Briançon [d. 1310], lord of West Thurrock, of all the rights she had in the lands and tenements which William has in Breckenham, Rossworth, and Shadwell in Norfolk, and Teversham in Cambridgeshire, which Warin, her husband, sold to Bartholomew de Briançon [d. 1287], William’s father; dated to between 1287, the death of Bartholomew de Briançon, and 1310, when William de Briançon died.
Endorsed: in a 14th-century hand, ‘Bassingborne’.
Affixed with an imperfect seal of Isabella, lozenge, brown, with a full-length image of a woman in a long dress and a headdress, a heraldic shield on her right hand, detail lost, a bird on her left hand, with the legend, ‘s[igillum] isabelle de bassingburne’ (see Birch, Catalogue of Seals (1887-1900), II, p. 377).

George James Finch-Hatton (b. 1815, d. 1887), 11th Earl of Winchilsea and 6th Earl of Nottingham, 1869.
Purchased by the British Museum from G. Richard Attenborough, 12 July 1873, together with Add Chs 19788-22613, for £1100. This followed an unsuccessful attempt to negotiate the purchase of these charters from the earl of Winchilsea in 1869.
